I’m sure you have heard of a VPN by now, if you aren’t living in a jungle or something.

But if you, by any chance, live in the woods far away from the city, a VPN might sound like a jargon used by aliens. Let me tell you what it is.

A VPN, also known as virtual private network, allows you to browse the internet anonymously by hiding your IP.

But is it all that a VPN does? No.

The internal workings of a VPN.

Let me tell you what powers a VPN holds and why do you need it.

#1. Anonymity.

By using a VPN, you are anonymous on the web. No one can access your original IP online. This protects you from people tracking you and also prevents hack attempts.

#2. Unblock Content.

With a VPN, you can unblock content that is blocked in your region. Basically a VPN can assign you an IP of any country, provided by the vpn company, which allows you to browse the internet like someone from that country, thus, unblocking content that was restricted in your region.

#3. ISP Throttling.

ISP throttling is when your ISP limits your bandwidth and speeds to provide all the users consistent speeds and balance the load on the servers. This usually happens when you’re streaming. By using a VPN, you can prevent ISP throttling as your ISP won’t know what you’re doing online if you’re connected to a VPN.

#4. DNS Leaks.

DNS leaks are something you need to look out for. DNS leaks can leak out your browsing activities to your ISP, and god knows to who else. A VPN provides a secure DNS server to prevent DNS leaks so that no one can put their nose into your business, dirty or not.

There are a lot more benefits for using a VPN. If you’re looking for a good VPN, I suggest you check out this review of expressvpn here.
